Our Chota Tingrai Black Tea comes from the family-run Chota Tingrai Tea Estate in Assam, where it's grown using organic and regenerative farming practices. This single-estate CTC Assam tea brews a bold, malty, full-bodied cup that's equally at home in a classic masala chai or enjoyed simply with milk, or on its own.

For the best cup, steep 1 teaspoon of tea in 8 ounces of just-boiled water for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how strong you like it. Enjoy it black, with milk, or brew it the traditional way with spices and milk for homemade masala chai.

Chota Tingrai is a CTC (Crush, Tear, Curl) Assam black tea grown in India, in a region celebrated for producing rich, malty teas. CTC tea is traditionally used for masala chai and black tea blends because its bold flavor stands up beautifully to milk and spices while still making a satisfying everyday cup on its own.

Absolutely. Its bold flavor makes it a wonderful ingredient in the kitchen. Brew it to infuse cream for ice cream or custards, steep it for tea cakes and syrups, use it in cocktails, or replace water with strong brewed tea for recipes like soy-marinated eggs. It's far more versatile than your morning cup.

Yes, there's a real difference, and it comes down mainly to processing. Black tea undergoes full oxidation, which is what gives it that dark color and rich, malty taste. Green tea, on the other hand, is barely oxidized at all, so it comes across as lighter with a fresher, more grassy character. For a tea that holds up well to milk and spices, Assam black is the traditional pick.

Our farm partners have been cultivating spices using practices that go "beyond organic" for well over five years. Although they haven't obtained USDA certification yet, this is primarily because the initial certification can be costly and may lead to cycles of debt. To meet USDA standards, four years of inspections and certificates are required after the first certification. However, we consider this process redundant and unnecessary since we conduct thorough testing on every batch we procure. It's a prerequisite for Diaspora Co. to select farm partners whose soil health and agricultural practices align with our internal standards of growing food regeneratively.

Most of the spices are good 2 years from the mill date, which is listed on the harvest label sticker on the jar or bag. That being said, our spices are extremely potent and fresh as we take incredible care to source yearly and aim for quality, so 2 years is our most conservative guideline, compared to most spices in the grocery store which are often 5-10 years old upon purchase.

Store them in an airtight container in a dark, dry place. Do not store spices in direct sunlight, as this will shorten their shelf life.
