Our floral dish towels, which launched in 2021, have been so well-loved by our community over the years. They were created with Synergy Lifestyles, a woman-owned textile company in Mumbai. Growing up, all our family's best textiles came from Sunita Aunty, my mum's favorite client, and one of the handful of amazing women that raised me. I grew up on the construction sites of the Synergy Lifestyles office and factory, digging through fabric samples and eating too many cookies in the conference room whilst my mum's attention was elsewhere. Watching these two powerful, independent women work together has been a driving force throughout my life.
It only felt right to collaborate with Sunita Aunty and her wonderful team again when we decided to design a new set of dish towels that reflect Diaspora Spice Co. today. These new dish towels are inspired by our cookbook journey and the pantry staples South Asians know and love. We chose fresh new colours that still felt vibrant and added the most adorable embroidered motifs to them: a coconut, a plump tomato, and a sprig of fresh curry leaves! The pantry staples were first hand-illustrated in-house and then embroidered onto the towels by the Synergy team.
